Todd, et al. v. Norfolk Southern Corporation (D.S.C. April 23, 2018) (putative class action brought under the South Carolina General Railroad Law by land owners in Richland County who allege substantial property damage caused by heavy rains in October of 2015 due to the water course flow from a nearby creek being slowed/restricted by an embankment and train trestle that is owned, controlled and operated by Norfolk Southern)
Peters v. Carson Smithfield, LLC, No. 1:18-cv-00312 (M.D.N.C. April 18, 2018) (purposed class action alleging defendant’s form collection letter violates the Fair Debt Collections Act)
Hernandez-Campos, et al. v. Fann Farms, Inc., et al., No. 5:18-cv-00162 (E.D.N.C. April 17, 2018) (purported collective and class action brought under FLSA and state wage and hour laws by migrant farmworkers, who were recruited from Mexico through the H-2A temporary agricultural visa program, alleging defendants failed to pay minimum wage)
Manigault-Johnson, et al. v. Google, LLC, et al., No. 2:18-cv-01032 (D.S.C. April 16, 2018) (purported class action seeking injunctive relief against Google, YouTube, and Alphabet, Inc. brought by parents alleging defendant have used their children’s personally identifying information for future commercial gain in violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act)
Hagan, et al. v. Blue Max Trucking, Inc., No. 2:18-cv-01004 (D.S.C. April 12, 2018) (putative class action removed from South Carolina state court brought under the South Carolina Payment of Wages Act against Blue Max for allegedly requiring employees to work “off the clock” and failing to pay all wages due)
Hogan, et al. v. Cherokee Cnty., et al., No. 1:18-cv-00096 (W.D.N.C. April 13, 2018) (purported class action removed from North Carolina state court brought by parents who are residents of Cherokee County against the Cherokee County Department of Social Services for damages including emotion suffering for their alleged unlawful use of custody and visitation agreements and powers of attorney to remove minor children from proper custodial parents or court-appointed foster parents and denying them access to juvenile court)
Harris v. Atlantic Credit & Fin., Inc., No. 1:18-cv-00270 (M.D.N.C. April 6, 2018) (purported class action brought under the Fair Debt Collections Act relating to plaintiffs’ CareCredit accounts used to pay veterinarian bills alleging Atlantic Credit accepted untimely payments in violation of the Act)
Harris v. Stern & Eisenberg, P.C., et al., No. 3:18-cv-00171 (W.D.N.C. April 6, 2018) (purported class action alleging national law firm is a debt collector and violated the Fair Debt Collections Act by sending demand letters requiring consumers to submit any dispute of the debt in writing)
